From healthcare to data: how Daniëlle (35) discovered that IT is less technical than you think

Daniëlle (35) worked in healthcare for years. She helped people, participated in processes, and was easy to deal with complex situations. But at some point, it started to itch. She wanted something different. Learn something new. “I wanted to keep using my head — but in a different way.”

“I thought: this is not for me, way too technical.” “But in the end it turned out to be mostly logical, creative and… actually great fun.”

So… from healthcare to data? How did you come up with that idea?

“Honestly? It did not come naturally at all. I always thought IT was only about difficult code and endless lines of logic. But when I came across Data Analytics through Winc, something fell into place.

It was not just about technology at all, it was about insights. About seeing connections. And about helping people move forward, just in a different way than I was used to.”

‍

And then?

“Then I simply gave it a try, and within a few days I was sold. Everything felt logically structured. You do not need to be a maths genius, you mainly need to be curious.”

What turned out better than expected?

“That it is actually quite creative. For example, you get a dataset from a hospital and it is up to you to get something meaningful out of it. No tricks, but real thinking. You discover trends, build dashboards, and suddenly see patterns that others have not seen yet. That is so satisfying.”

What did your retraining look like?

“I took the Data Analytics with Python course. 100% online, but with personal guidance. I was still working part-time in healthcare back then, so I planned my own study moments. The lessons were clear, there were assignments you could put into practice right away, and you get feedback from real mentors. And through Slack I was in touch with other students, which really helped when I got stuck.”

And now?

“I now work as a data analyst at a healthcare organization. I help create reports and dashboards that help doctors and managers make better decisions. It still feels like I am making an impact, just in a slightly different way. And honestly? Only now do I see how many opportunities there are in the healthcare sector once you understand what you can do with data.”
