Retraining to IT
Omscholen naar IT begint met één keuze: welke richting je op wilt. Daarna kies je een route. In Nederland zijn er vier: een baangarantie-traject, een online opleiding in je eigen tempo, hbo zij-instroom of deeltijd, en zelfstudie. Afhankelijk van de route duurt een carrièreswitch naar IT een paar maanden tot ongeveer een jaar. Hieronder zie je welke route bij jou past, wat het kost en of het echt een baan oplevert.
In 4 stappen omscholen naar IT
1. Kies je richting
IT is breed. Wil je dingen bouwen, met data werken of mensen helpen met techniek? Die vraag bepaalt welke kant je op gaat en welke opleiding je zoekt. Kies je richting voordat je naar aanbieders kijkt. Anders kies je op prijs of duur, en niet op wat je leuk vindt. Weet je het nog niet? Doe de IT-carrièretest of bekijk welke richting past bij jou.
2. Kies je route
Er zijn vier routes naar IT: een baangarantie-traject, een online opleiding in je eigen tempo, hbo zij-instroom of deeltijd, en zelfstudie. Ze verschillen in duur, kosten, toelatingseisen en de hoeveelheid begeleiding. Welke past, hangt af van hoeveel tijd je hebt en of je naast je werk wilt leren. Verderop staan ze naast elkaar.
3. Regel je financiering
Je hoeft een omscholing niet altijd zelf te betalen. Het UWV, je werkgever of een regionale subsidie kan meebetalen. Regel dit voordat je start, niet erna. Welke regeling voor jou geldt, hangt af van je situatie: werk je nu, heb je een uitkering, en wil je fulltime of naast je werk leren?
4. Start en bouw je portfolio
Begin met leren en werk vanaf het begin aan echte projecten. Bewaar wat je maakt. Een portfolio laat een werkgever zien wat je kunt, en dat weegt zwaar als je van buiten de IT komt. Plan daarnaast vaste uren per week in. Zo houd je tempo, ook zonder rooster.

Baangarantie-traject
Ja.
Een opleiding waar een baan aan vastzit. De aanbieder garandeert je na afronding een baan, meestal in samenwerking met een werkgever.
Meestal enkele maanden, in een vast programma.
Wie snel wil starten en zich daar volledig voor kan vrijmaken. Let op de toelatingseisen. Die verschillen per aanbieder.
Bij de aanbieder, vaak in combinatie met de werkgever.
Online opleiding in je eigen tempo
Nee. Wel carrièreondersteuning en een netwerk van werkgevers.
Een praktijkgerichte IT-omscholing die je volledig online volgt, zonder vaste lesuren. Je werkt aan projecten en krijgt begeleiding van een mentor.
Tot 3 tot 9 maanden, afhankelijk van de opleiding.
Wie naast een baan of gezin wil leren en zelf het tempo wil bepalen.
Thuis, online. Je mentor bereik je via Slack en in 1-op-1 sessies.
Hbo zij-instroom of deeltijd
Nee.
Een deeltijdopleiding aan een hogeschool, naast je werk. Je werkt toe naar een hbo-diploma.
De langste route. Reken op ongeveer een jaar of meer.
Wie een erkend diploma wil en tijd heeft voor een langere studie. Toelating hangt af van je vooropleiding.
Op een hogeschool, in een vast programma met lesmomenten.
Zelfstudie
Nee.
Je leert zelf, met online lessen, boeken en oefenprojecten. Zonder vast programma en zonder begeleiding.
Bepaal je zelf. Zonder structuur duurt het vaak langer.
Wie veel discipline heeft, weinig budget en niet per se een certificaat nodig heeft.
Overal, zonder mentor.

Wat kost het en wie betaalt mee?
Wat omscholen naar IT kost, hangt af van drie dingen: de route die je kiest, hoe lang de opleiding duurt, en of je fulltime leert of naast je werk. Een lange route kost meestal meer dan een korte. Bij zelfstudie betaal je vooral met tijd.
Je hoeft het niet altijd zelf te betalen. Winc Academy werkt met vier financieringsroutes: UWV-financiering (de route voor UWV omscholing ICT), Werkgeversbudget (je werkgever betaalt mee), TechMeUp en Regionale subsidies. Zoek je naar betaald omscholen ICT? Dan bedoel je meestal dat iemand anders je opleiding betaalt, zoals het UWV of je werkgever. Ook dat valt onder deze vier routes.

I followed the “UX Design with Figma” course at Winc Academy. It's a very well structured course, with lots of theoretical and practical knowledge, (with additional resources to dig deeper) that can be followed in your own pace, whenever you have time or feel like doing it. All Winc Academy students are connected via the community app where you can meet people following the same course, help each other, develop together. I am using Figma now on a daily basis, both for work and for my personal use. I can only recommend it!
Agile Project Management, conveniently arranged digitally
Winc has a nice, well-organized portal. The curriculum is also clear, with example cases, which makes the theory a bit more light-hearted. The digital system works very well, so I didn't need contact with a “physical Winc employee”. Strangely enough, I do miss that a bit afterwards. Hence not 5 but 4 stars.
One big community!
Good course material, plenty of live lessons, helpful teachers and fellow students. Slack is great for connecting with each other. Constructive criticism is always taken seriously. 1 point for improvement. The time indicated in which you can study is the same for a Newby in tech or a student who is already familiar with programming languages. Six months of Full Stack development for a Newby is too short. There may be a difference in that. This is especially important for students who follow the course through the UWV, because then time is also important.
