1. It enriches your IT vocabulary

No, we're not talking about expensive, fancy, or fancy words like divaging, epibrating, or interacting. By this, we mean the programmer's technical jargon. Nowhere is there more jargon than in the IT world. Examples include DevOps, API, Breadcrumbs, Firmware and Nesting. If you learn the basics of programming, you will learn to speak the language of a programmer and this can be useful to you as a marketer! For example, being able to describe in IT jargon why a certain API does not work. Or being able to explain to the IT department why you're dealing with “undefined sources” in HubSpot. And yes, here I am speaking from my own experience; a bit of programming knowledge has often helped me out as a marketer.

2. Make better marketing decisions

Some basic programming knowledge will make it easier to tell the IT department what it takes to make your marketing idea a success. After all, you know what to do, for example, to add a form, improve site navigation or develop an app. However, it doesn't stop there! With knowledge of programming, for example, you can also better determine whether a marketing idea is feasible.

3. Successful project management

Thanks to your knowledge, you can make a more realistic time schedule with the IT department. Thanks to your programming knowledge, you know what is involved in a particular project. Does your company have no 'in-house' IT departments? Then it is especially useful to have some basic programming knowledge. This is because this gives you a better negotiating position! For example, you'll know it right away if the programmer's “no word” is part of his or her negotiation technique. You can pierce through it in no time when the programmer doesn't feel like doing something.

In short, there is a good chance that with your acquired programming knowledge, you can reduce costs, lead better projects and save a lot of time.

4. It improves your solution-oriented approach

Perhaps one of the biggest benefits for the marketer is learning to think like a programmer. By learning to program, you will become better at recognizing patterns, analyzing data and solving “small” problems. You will learn how taking a critical look can help you to divide a problem into small pieces and then solve it in the most efficient way possible. Once you've written your first lines of code, you'll understand exactly what we mean by this.

5. You can get started yourself

Of course, with a little bit of programming knowledge, you won't immediately invent and develop the next Instagram or Uber Eats, but you can get a lot of benefits out of it. It's really going to make your life as a marketer a lot easier. After all, you will “never” have to wait for weeks in the IT department because you can take on a lot of tasks independently.

You can do this directly with your programming knowledge

The benefits you get from having some programming knowledge as a marketer are almost too many to mention. To give you an idea of what you can do with some programming knowledge, we have listed some examples for you.

Optimise websites yourself
With what HTML and CSS You can tinker with websites yourself. This can be very useful if you want to set up and install Tag Manager. Do you want to style and textually modify the email subscription pages in HubSpot? Even then, some programming knowledge comes in handy.

Creating APIs
With programming knowledge, you, as a marketer, are able to create APIs yourself. The biggest advantage of this is that you are no longer dependent on Data Studio community connectors or platforms like Zapier. Are there no links yet for the new marketing tool that you are just using? Don't worry, you can just create the links yourself.

Reports
By learning to program, you will be able to make large data analyses faster and easier. Do you regularly perform data analyses in your current job? Sure, you'll get a long way with Spreadsheets and Data Studio, but with some programming knowledge, you can convert user data into powerful and clear explanatory (predictive) analyses faster and easier.

Enthusiastic and do you want to be able to do this too? Then don't wait any longer and start today with the Programming with Python.
